The wise men of old came bringing the gift of gold. “Rare and beautiful, shining like the sun in all its splendor. From ancient times a sign of wealth, a work of art—a gift usually reserved (and fit) for a king.” – Ashley Hagan
This is one of the gifts these magi from the east presented to the newly born King of the Jews, King of the Nations and King of the Heavens (Matt. 2:1-12).
This gift given to Jesus is a beautiful symbol of the gifts of our love, loyalty and lives laid down and lifted up to One who gave His love, loyalty and life for us. The greatest gifts rightfully belong to the One who gave the ultimate and eternal gifts to all.
Jesus is our King, and we are called to enthrone Him as such in our lives. Enthroning Him as King means that He has the right to rule in righteousness in everything. He deserves our complete love and loyalty as we devote the whole of our lives to serve His mission and to sacrificially minister in His name and for His glory. We must give Him the “gold” of grateful hearts for His gracious gift to us.
Enthroning Christ With Indestructible Love. Nothing can destroy gold. You can grind it, melt and mold it. But it can never be destroyed. That’s how it is with God’s love for us in Christ Jesus: it never gives out and it never gives up. And that must be the way we love God the Father and Jesus the Son in return. We must offer back the gift that was first given to us—a love that is indisputable, indispensable and indestructible. We must enthrone Christ with a love that never falters, never fades and never fails. And when we love Jesus Christ as our king with an indestructible love, we can love one another with a love that does whatever it takes for as long as it takes.
Enthroning Christ With Imperishable Loyalty. Gold will never pass away. It is elemental and enduring. That’s how it is with God’s steadfast, covenantal love and loyalty for us in Christ Jesus: it never runs out and never runs off. And that must be the way we display loyalty to God the Father and Jesus the Son in return. We must offer back the gift that was first given to us—a loyalty that is strong, stable and steadfast. We must enthrone Christ with a loyalty that is always focused, always faithful and always fixed on the King and the kingdom. And when we are loyal to Jesus Christ as our king with an imperishable loyalty, we can display a loyalty to one another that that lasts and lasts and lasts.
Enthroning Christ With Invaluable Lives. Gold is something of tremendous value. Every ounce is truly “worth its weight.” People mine it and mold it into beautiful and beloved treasures. That’s how it is with the way God valued us in sending His Son to make a way to mine us and mold us into people of great worth and value. Our lives have tremendous value because we were seen as valuable and made spiritually valuable in Christ Jesus. We must offer the value of redeemed lives back to the One who first valued us. We must enthrone Christ in our lives in such a way that we, under His life and lordship, invest the value of our gifts and callings into a world that needs the Jesus in us. And when we recognize that we are invaluable and indispensable in the divine plan, we can give ourselves away with great influence and impact to believers and unbelievers alike.
Remember: When we offer the “gold” of our love, loyalty and lives for the gracious gift of Christ Jesus to us, we position ourselves to bring great glory to God and great good to man.
