Last week we focused on a disciple named Ananias who helped a new convert to Christ come into freedom and fullness in the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus called Ananias to arise and go to Saul of Tarsus, a former enemy of the church who was now a follower of Christ. And go he did. As he went, he received an ongoing increase of guidance, grace and great power. Saul then received the healing and wholeness he needed, which changed his life and the lives of countless others.

This week we are looking at a man named Philip, a steadfast servant of Jesus who was willing to go anywhere and do anything to obey the will of His Lord and do His work. He was a man with a good and godly reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, who was sought out and set apart for important and indispensable ministry in the early church (Acts 6:1-6).

After having served the church in Jerusalem well, he had a strong hand in leading a great spiritual awakening in Samaria by the declaration of God’s word and the demonstration of the Spirit’s power. He was then instructed by an angel of the Lord to go to Gaza where he would be given guidance on whom to minister to there and how to do it effectively. He immediately arose and went in faith and obedience (Acts 8:26-40).

When Philip arrived, the Holy Spirit commanded him to go to an Ethiopian man, a man of great authority under Queen Candace of the Ethiopians, who had come to Jerusalem to worship God. He was a God-fearing man who was searching the Scriptures for truth. As he was reading Isaiah 53:7-8, Philip approached him and asked him if he understood what he was reading. The man did not. He needed someone to guide him in his pursuit of truth and understanding. He invited Philip to join him and help him. He wanted to know if the man spoken of, who would suffer severely unto death, was Isaiah or someone else. Philip explained that the man spoken of was Jesus, the Son of God, the Messiah and King. The Ethiopian man put his faith in Jesus Christ and was marvelously saved and baptized into Christ. After this, the Spirit supernaturally transported Philip to another place where he continued to preach and proclaim the gospel with power.

Philip represents another example of what happens in the life of any believer who is willing to get up and go by the leading and life of the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus essentially says to each one of us, “As you go in My name to reach neighbors, nations and generations, good news will be ministered and good things will be manifested.”

As with Philip, as you go, you will know. Revelation of what to do and how to do it increased as he went. The same is true for you and me. Everything you don’t know, you will know when you need to know it.

As with Philip, as you go, grace will grow. Philip grew in spiritual strength, stature and stability as he went. The same is true for you and me. Christ’s divine enabling and emboldening will grow as you go in faith and loving obedience.

As with Philip, as you go, . Philip experienced the flow of the supernatural power of the Lord that confirmed his mission, message and ministry as being from God. The same is true for you and me. The power of God will anoint your work and attend your way, as you go.

Remember: You will know, grace will grow and power will flow as you go in the name of the Lord reaching neighbors, nations and generations with the good news of Jesus Christ’s love and power.
